Close Knit

During 2021/22 I worked with Museums Northumberland Bait, as part of the Creative People and Places network. Led by a group of community decision-makers working with animator Sheryl Jenkins and sound artist Alison Carlier we produced the animated documentary Close Knit. The film knits together individual stories to consider how communities have been shaped by the industrial legacy of coal mining. I worked collaboratively on the soundtrack and gathered stories working with a wide range of people including Bedlington Creatives, Northumberland College, and a group of  Syrian refugees. During this project we considered the powerful role of oral history in accessing memories and the importance of recording the experiences and perspectives of people who might otherwise be hidden from history.
Close Knit was selected for Sunderland Shorts Film Festival and Tees Valley International Film Festival, where it was shortlisted for the best animation.
